Barbara Ann Corcoran

Barbara Ann Corcoran was a businesswoman, investor and speaker from the United America. She founded The Corcoran Group, a real estate brokerage in New York City, which she sold to NRT for $66 million in 2001 and shortly after, she left the company. Corcoran was a participant in 12 of ABC's Shark Tank seasons. As of February 2020 she had closed 53 deals. One of them was a purchase of $350,000 in Coverplay at 40 percent. Corcoran was the second of a family of 10 children born to a working class Irish-Catholic couple in Edgewater, New Jersey. Florence Corcoran was Florence's mother and was a homemaker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father through Corcoran's childhood. At times, her family relied on deliveries of free food from a local grocery store. Corcoran recalls her father as a man who sometimes was a drinker and was rude to her mother and contempt, particularly when he was drinking. Corcoran had difficulty at school and later found out that she was dyslexic. Corcoran entered high school in St. Cecilia High School Englewood, after she left her Catholic elementary school. Corcoran graduated from Leonia High School with a diploma in English, despite not completing several classes in her first year of high school.
