Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20 1964) was an American politician, attorney, and the current vice president of the United States. She is both the first female vice-president as well as the highest ranking female official in the United States. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her career began with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General of California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare, federal cannabis de-scheduling, the possibility of citizenship for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She is most famous for her direct questions to Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
